      The Old Cathedral - This is an oil painting derived from a black and white photo from  Finland, where my grandmother was born.
 Oulu was a medieval trading centre at the mouth of rivers. Google Earth shows the cathedral still functional in the community.

      The End of the Earth As We See It - It was the beginning of the Pandemic, only I didn't know it.  My niece took me to China Beach on Vancouver Island.  It was eerily beautiful.  A precursor?

      Upper Fort Garry Gate 1950's - This black and white photograph from the 1950's has been hand painted with oil, directly on the photo.  
Upper Fort Garry was a Hudson's Bay Company Trading post at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  The Cree, Ojibwa, Dakota, Metis, American, English, Scottish, French and English traded from here, displayed their cultures here, experienced conflict and friendship. 
 In the 19th Century, the Fort played a crucial role as a gateway to the West, the founding of Manitoba and the eventual joining of the western provinces into the Confederation of Canada.
The Gate has been recently restored in Winnipeg. (Upper Fort Garry)

 Red River Carts were the best form of transportation even though you could here them coming from miles away due to the ungreased, creaky wooden wheels.

      Buffalo on Prairie, 1846 - This is a hand painted photograph done on William Turner archival rag paper.
"By the late 1870's, the vast herds that had blackened the plains...remained only as bleached white bones that littered the ground in equally prodigious quantities.  A new industry of "bone picking" developed for entrepreneurial settlers, Metis and Natives,  to supplement their meagre existence. (from the book "Buffalo", Foster et al.)
